Flu (also identified as influenza) is an extremely contagious illness caused by the flu virus. The disease is extremely communicable and it has the potential to cause a pervasive outbreak affecting a substantial portion of a population at any time. The virus infects the lungs and the upper airways, causing sudden high temperature and general body aches and pains. The disease can also bring on dry cough, nausea and loss of appetite. An individual will commonly begin to experience the symptoms of flu one to four days after being contaminated by the flu virus; and this may require him/her to stay in bed until the symptoms get better. The treatment for flu usually aims to manage the discomforts brought on by the symptoms of infection which may include high fever, headache, fatigue, weakness, exhaustion, cold like sore throat and stuffiness. Flu is generally communicable a day before the onset of symptoms until the symptoms totally disappear. The length of flu infection is usually longer in individuals who are immunocompromised, the elderly and infants or children. And individuals with pre-existing medical conditions may even suffer serious complications from flu infection. Therefore, it is imperative to treat flu as soon as the symptoms show. Flu can be treated in many ways and more importantly there are also ways to avoid catching and spreading this infection; you can find some of these below flu treatments:• Make sure to cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. And throw the soiled tissue in the trash after. • Make hand washing a habit; especially if you have a cough or colds. You may also use alcohol-based hand cleaners, since they are also effective. • Avoid close contact with people who have cough and/or colds. • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.• When ill, continue to stay at home for at least one day even if your symptoms have already disappeared. • Drink plenty of liquids–water, fruit juices, and clear soups–for hydration. • Do not share clothing or other personal items with another individual during a flu outbreak. • Handrails, telephones, doors, faucets, and counters in public areas are full of germs; so avoid touching them. • Give your body time to repair itself; take sufficient periods of rest.• To avoid dehydration, take a rehydrating mixture, especially when you are having a high fever. This can be made at home using salt, sugar, and plain or rice water. You can also add some fruits or fruit juices into the solution to enhance its taste and for an addition of nutrients. • Do not use antibiotics as flu treatment, as they will not be effective against viruses. • Alleviate the cough brought about by flu with the use of expectorants and mucolytics. With the help of all the points mentioned above, you can avoid flu and as well as have effective flu treatment when you are experiencing the infection The best flu treatments are the natural flu treatments.
